When should I get my dog groomed?

“At our grooming service, we understand the importance of regular grooming appointments for your dog’s well-being. Our services are designed to prevent unnecessary suffering, skin infections, and pain associated with soiled coats, matting, and long nails. We recommend grooming appointments every 4-6 weeks for all breeds, with more frequent visits for certain coat types.
Matting can be a serious issue for dogs, causing discomfort and restricting blood flow to the skin. It can also hide unwanted parasites, trapped feces and debris, as well as embedded thorns and grass seeds. To ensure your dog’s comfort and happiness, we offer careful matting removal using clipper blades and scissors. Please note that this process may expose your dog’s skin, and it requires adequate time to be allocated.
If you have a dog with a coat that becomes matted easily, we suggest 1-6 weekly visits to maintain a long coat. However, if you prefer fewer visits, we can recommend a shorter style that will still keep your dog looking great for longer. Please understand that we do not offer dematting services as they can cause unnecessary suffering.
Our team is dedicated to providing the best care for your dog. We monitor their welfare closely and suggest grooming frequencies based on your desired style and your dog’s coat condition. We always strive to create a stress-free environment for both groomer and dog.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.”

How long will the grooming session take?

At our grooming service, we understand the importance of providing a gentle and relaxing experience for your dog. The duration of the grooming session can vary depending on the work involved, typically ranging from 2 to 6 hours. During this time, your dog will receive breaks in between bathing, drying, brushing, clipping, and scissoring. We ensure that fresh water is provided and toilet breaks are given to make sure your dog feels relaxed and enjoys their pampering.

The cost of grooming your dog depends on various factors, including the complexity of the groom and how long it takes. The final cost is determined by:

  • The size and weight of your dog
  • The thickness and length of their coat
  • The amount of undercoat they have
  • heir behavior during the grooming session
  • The method/style of groom you would like

This message covers important information about dog matting and grooming care, providing a clear perspective on the potential health issues caused by matting and the importance of regular grooming. Here’s a summary of key points you may want to consider if you’re passing along these tips or using them to guide a grooming routine:

  • Health Risks of Matting:

Matting is painful for dogs, pulling the skin tightly and potentially restricting blood flow.
Severe matting can hide parasites, trapped debris, and embedded objects like thorns, which may lead to infections.

  • Grooming Process:

Severe matting requires clippers and scissors to go close to the skin, which can sometimes lead to nicks and scratches.
Groomers take time and care, but the process can be stressful for both the dog and groomer.
After matting removal, dogs might feel a “pins and needles” sensation from restored blood flow, leading to behaviors like licking, scratching, or hiding. This will subside over time.

  • Owner Responsibility:

Regular grooming, including daily combing and 4-6 week grooming appointments, is essential to prevent matting and promote coat health.
For severe cases, when matting is extreme, a vet may be the only option.
Positive Support:

If a dog’s appearance changes after matting removal, owners are encouraged to be positive, as dogs can sense disappointment.
This information is useful for dog owners to understand the importance of coat maintenance and how they can best support their dogs’ health and well-being.

If you are not happy with the finished groom?

We understand that you may have specific preferences for your dog’s groom, and we always strive to meet your expectations. However, the condition of your dog’s coat plays a significant role in determining what is possible during the grooming process. In some cases, we may need to go shorter than you would like due to matting or knots in their coat. It’s important to note that brushing out matting can cause stress and pain for your dog, which is why we are obliged under section 12.1 of the Animal Welfare Act 2013 to avoid unnecessary suffering and act accordingly in the best interest of your dog’s welfare1.

If you think that we did not take off enough length during the grooming session, please let us know as soon as you pick up your dog or return your dog to us within 24 hours. We will be happy to make any necessary adjustments and go a little shorter to ensure your satisfaction1.

We value your feedback and want to ensure that both you and your dog are happy with the grooming results. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any further questions or concerns.
